Lakes Near Hot Springs Village
Lake Ouachita (Washita) – This pristine water supply lake was built in the 1950’s as part of the Ouachita River management and has been run by the Corp of Engineers for over 50 years. It is surrounded by National Forest and is part of the Ouachita National Forest. As such, Lake Ouachita is a pristine gem of water quality and recreation. With over 200 islands it is a recreational dream. Only 7 miles from our rental units this Lake and State Park are NOT to be missed. Also, ACROSS from Lake Ouachita State Park is the Little Blakely Trail System. Little Blakely Trails is one of the most diverse hiking areas you can find in Arkansas. Ranging from double wide logging road trails to narrow goat trails that teeter 65 feet over the clifts over looking the lake, it is a great place for any kind of hiking.
Lake Hamilton (City of Hot Springs) – Lake Hamilton (like Lake Ouachita) has a water level controlled by Entergy the local power utility. Lake Hamilton is certainly beautiful and is a the second lake in the Tri Lakes area. Unlike Ouachita, Hamilton is heavily built out and as a rule has LOTS of boat traffic. There are, sadly, 2 – 3 boating deaths each year on Lake Hamilton. The lake is wide, large and diverse so not all areas are crowded, but on holiday weekends it can be a little crazy.
Lake Catherine (waterfall) – Lake Catherine, the 3rd of the Tri Lakes, is a State Park and has commercial use. It does have some homes but not nearly as many as Hamilton. The key feature of this gem is the hiking trail to the waterfalls. The waterfalls can be accessed by a 1.8 mile trail or from the parking lot (the opposite end of the trail) for about 350 yards. Generally always flowing the waterfalls at Lake Catherine are a great treat.
Petit Jean State Park – WOW.. one word… WOW. This riverside Mesa (you heard me) is an amazing place in any and every way. Located on the River Bottoms of the Arkansas River, this 800 foot mesa rises out of the river valley with a nearly flat top.
There is a State Park, Lake, Airport, Cattle Farm, Church Camp, Industry, Auto Museum, 95 foot waterfall and MUCH more atop this stunning place. The views of the River Valley are amazing and the story behind the name even better.
Lake Nimrod – Flood Control Lake just a few miles north of Hot Springs Village. Great Fishing and a laid back lifestyle (in the middle of 1.7 million acres of National Forest are just a couple of the amenities it offers.
